| | Papua New Guinea (PNG) is an archipelago of some 600 islands located in the southwest Pacific Ocean. Diversity of the population is reflected in some 800 different spoken dialects. However, English is the official language for business and education. The entire landmass of PNG is the second largest in the world. |  | CAPITAL CITY
Port Moresby is the capital city of PNG. It is situated in the National Capital District (NCD) and only 3 hours by air from Brisbane, Australia, 5 hours by air from Manila, Philippines, and 6 hours by air from Singapore. The country has 19 provinces. NCD is located within Central Province. | CLIMATE The climate is tropical and monsoonal - with a high rainfall of 2,000ml per year. 23-24 degree Celsius is the norm in the coastal areas while it is 14-28 degree Celsius in the highlands.

The population of PNG currently stands a little well over the 5 million mark. Port Moresby has a population of over 300,000. | RELIGION
The principle religious groups are Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, and the United Church. | GOVERNMENT PNG gained independence on 16 September 1975. Its fundamental strength lies in the independence of the 3 branches of the Westminster Model in the executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. | PNG AND THE WORLD
