At the invitation of the local authorities Ambassador Mr.&Mrs. Momis went to Zhejiang Province where they visited Hanzhow,Dongyang,Yiwu and Wenzhou cities between 6th and 11th April.
The Important Meetings In Hangzhou Ambassador met with Deputy Governor Mr.Zhongshan who told Momis that Zhejiang used to be a very poor province. But they were the first to begin with reform and they tested various Market economic methods though they were often accused as being capitalism oriented and adventurous then. Now the GDP per capita got over 5000 dollars and it is the highest among all the provinces . But the Province is confronted with new problems due to its lack of energy and other raw material. The Governor said their import from PNG increased to over 100 million dollars because they bought lots of timber. The Governor said he hopes to import more from PNG and invest more into PNG so that the trade relations can become sustainable. Ambassador said Zhejiang is lack of natural resources while PNG is lack of capital and technology .The bilateral economic relations are really complementary which can be beneficial to the both sides.
In Dongyang, Yiwu and Wenzhou Ambassador met the city mayors, and expressed the similar ideas.
Promotion of Investment & trade In these cities, Ambassador Momis made presentations at three different seminars. They answered questions for over 120 Chinese entrepreneurs. The Ambassador had deep going talks and discussions with a number of businessmen. After talks, Mr.Wu Guochao,the president of Zhejiang Energy said he will go to PNG and look into the possibilities to develop natural gas and build up new power stations. Mr.He Shijin,the president of Dmegc Magnetics said Dmegc is a world leading company in the magnetic products. They have strong interest in investing to mines, construction and processing industies in PNG. If things are go well, he said, it could lead to thousands new job. He will send an expert group to prepare for it. Mr. Zhou Jin Miao ,a leading shoe producer in Wenzhow will also go and look for possibilities for his business.
Ambassador expressed the willingness to help and said they are all welcome to attend to the PNG-Sino Investment &Trade Symposium opening in Port Moresby on 1 July. |
